Debate Shows Kruger as Only Candidate Committed to No New Taxes

DELTA, BC — The Delta mayoral debate drew a clear dividing line for voters: One Delta’s Dylan Kruger is the only candidate to firmly commit to no new taxes, levies or fees.

During the debate sponsored by the Delta Chamber of Commerce, Achieving for Delta’s George Harvie and Delta First’s Melissa Granum both refused to rule out new tax increases. Harvie argued that tax hikes are what the City has historically done, while Granum suggested capital projects could not proceed without finding new ways to draw on taxpayers.

“When I’m out door-knocking, everyone is clear that they are struggling and looking for immediate financial relief,” says Kruger. “We’ve listened and we’re taking action. We don’t need more studies and we’re not going to stick to the old playbook. Delta deserves better and it’s time they got it.”

One Delta’s platform lays out actions local government can take to keep life more affordable, which include:

  • Protect Taxpayers: No new taxes, levies or fees
  • Property Tax Cap: Capping future property tax increases to the rate of inflation
  • Seniors Support: Lowering the eligibility age for the Seniors Activity Pass from 75 to 70
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Banning first-class travel for city council members and staff
  • Economic Growth: Creating an economic development office to attract jobs and expand the tax base

“If other candidates are truly listening to the community, it’s hard to understand why they think it’s okay to dip deeper into taxpayer pockets,” says Kruger. “Families, businesses and seniors are struggling with cost of living. We cannot treat them as a piggy bank.”

Responsible budgeting and economic growth - not new taxes - are the path forward, says Kruger. “We balance the budget through smart, efficient management and by growing our revenue base, not by dipping deeper into the pockets of everyday families,” he said. “Our team is prepared, experienced and ready to deliver the results this city deserves. It’s time to build Delta now and for the future.”
