3. Political Donation Requirements in British Columbia
Donations to the One Delta campaign are governed by the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act (LECA) of British Columbia. By making a contribution, you confirm that you understand and comply with the following requirements:
3.1 Who May Contribute
Only individuals who are ordinarily resident in British Columbia may make contributions to a local election campaign. The following are strictly prohibited from contributing:
- Corporations and businesses
- Trade unions and associations
- Non-profit organizations
- Individuals who are not ordinarily resident in BC
- Foreign nationals and foreign entities
3.2 Contribution Limits
Contribution limits are set by Elections BC and adjusted periodically. Donors may not exceed the maximum allowable contribution per candidate per election campaign period. Please visit elections.bc.ca for the current applicable limits.
3.3 Own Funds Requirement
All contributions must come from the donor's own personal funds. You may not make a contribution on behalf of another person or organization, or be reimbursed by another person or organization for a contribution you make.
3.4 Anonymous Contributions
Anonymous contributions in excess of $50 are not permitted. All contributions above this threshold require the donor's full legal name, residential address, and confirmation of BC residency. This information is required for campaign finance disclosure as mandated by law.
3.5 Disclosure and Reporting
Contributor information is collected and may be disclosed publicly as required under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act. Campaign financing disclosure reports, including contributor names and amounts, are filed with and published by Elections BC.
3.6 Donor Attestation
By completing a donation, you attest that:
- You are an individual, not a corporation, union, or organization
- You are ordinarily resident in British Columbia
- The contribution is made from your own personal funds
- You have not been reimbursed or promised reimbursement by any other person or entity
- Your contribution does not exceed the applicable legal limit
Important: Making a contribution that does not comply with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act is an offence under BC law. If you have any questions about whether you are eligible to contribute, please consult Elections BC or a qualified legal advisor before making a donation.
4. Refund Policy
Contributions to the One Delta campaign are generally non-refundable. If we determine that a contribution was made in violation of applicable campaign finance laws, we will return the contribution to the donor as required by law.
