One Delta School Board Team Outlines Plan for Safe Routes to School

Delta, B.C. — A One Delta School Board team will work closely with families, schools and community partners to make it safer and easier for children to get to and from school every day.

“Safe routes strengthen our neighbourhoods, reduce congestion and help build a community where children can walk, ride and grow with confidence,” says One Delta School Board candidate Val Windsor. “One Delta’s School Board team is proposing practical, meaningful steps that give families real reassurance that their kids are protected and supported every day.”

Ensuring students have safe, reliable routes is essential to their well-being, independence and success. The One Delta team is committed to practical, community-driven improvements that reflect the needs of Delta’s neighbourhoods.

To accomplish this, One Delta’s School Board team will:

• Create a clear, coordinated process between the Delta School District, the City of Delta, Delta Police, parents and students to quickly identify and effectively address school-zone safety concerns.

• Identify safer walking and cycling routes, along with practical upgrades such as improved crossings, better sightlines and missing sidewalks.

• Reduce congestion at school entrances by supporting safe drop-off locations and encouraging families, who can do so, to walk the final portion of the trip.

• Support Walk Zones and Walking-School-Bus initiatives so more children can safely walk with family, friends or supervised groups.

• Promote age-appropriate road-safety education and support enforcement of rules around e-bikes and e-scooters, while working with partners to strengthen Delta’s existing Vision Zero strategy.

“Families want to know their children are safe in school and we need to work together to ensure they can get to class safely as well,” says One Delta mayoral candidate Dylan Kruger. “This is an opportunity for all partners to work together to ensure our neighbourhoods work for the people who live there and ensure every child has a safe route to school.”

One Delta is running a full team for Mayor, Council, and School Board in the municipal election taking place on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
